The Mário Soares and Maria Barroso Foundation has a reading room prepared for receiving its users. During consultation on the spot, users may:

• Consult documents of the historical archives and the bibliography funds.
• Consult information access tools, such as inventories and catalogues.
• Research the Casa Comum digital platform and obtain specialized information on the funds and collections from the experts working at the reference service.
• Obtain other information of interest to them.

The reading room has the following working hours:

• Monday, Thursday and Friday
• 10:00-13:00; 14:30-17:00

Consultation should be booked in advance, through the email address geral@fmsoaresbarroso.pt.

Requests shall be attended remotely and on-the-spot, seeking to support user research strategies by answering questions on the archives belonging to the institution’s document collections and providing indications on the best way to access their resources.

The Foundation provides a document
digitalisation service, supplying digital copies in colour, with a 300 ppi resolution
in tiff format.

Requests of digital document copies should be
addressed to geral@fmsoaresbarroso.pt, including the following data:

• Document archive code (number provided on the Folder field of Casa Comum).
• Image number (for documents with more than one image).
• Purpose of use.

Please read the price table, in which you may find the conditions governing image acquisition, use and publication.

The supplied digital copies can be 200% expanded, without loss of apparent information. 

You may consult and request books and other
publications of the Foundation’s libraries, in Lisbon or at the João Soares
Museum-House, in Leiria. 

In Lisbon, consultation and requests shall be asked in advance to the our email, indicating, whenever possible, the publication’s library codes.

You may remotely access the bibliographical catalogues to identify the desired publications and prepare for consultation on-the-spot.

The reading room has the following working hours:

At the João Soares Museum-House, you may consult and request books available on the shelf, in free access, or request additional information, on the spot or remotely. At the João Lopes Soares Library, access to the General Reading Room and the Child-Youth Reading Room has the following working hours:

• Monday to Friday: 10:00-12:30; 14:30-18:00
• Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays: 15:00-18:00 (booking required in advance)

Items belonging to the Foundation’s collections can be lent for activities of cultural and/or scientific nature.

Each loan must consider the state of conservation of the originals – as well as the authorization of their holders, in the case of funds and collections deposited at the Foundation. Each loan shall depend on general and specific conditions that applicants must comply with.

Fee for preparing original documents for exhibitions: €20 per item.

need information on the best way to preserve them, make the information they
contain available, or pass it on to future generations, we can resort to our
technical team, we can advise you on the organisation and destination of your
documents.
