Mário Soares and Maria Barroso are symbols of the fight for freedom and democracy and promoters of peace, human rights, and social justice.
Programmes
Commemorations are held on the 7 December 2024 and last until the end of 2025, in association with the commemorations of the 25 April 50th Anniversary and the Maria Barroso Centenary.
The Mário Soares and Maria Barroso Foundation promotes the development of competences for a culture of democracy.
The programme includes a widely diversified set of initiatives, e.g., exhibitions, publications, conferences, debates, educational projects, and the release of more than 12,000 unpublished photographs from the archives of photojournalists.
The Foundation foments the opening, boosts public participation, promotes scientific progress and strengthens the quality of democracy through the open transparent access to cultural heritage.

We preserve and share heritage and the memory of freedom and democracy in our Archives, Libraries and Museum-House.
Educational Service
We develop actions of cultural and educational mediation aimed at promoting democratic and participative citizenship.
