From Arms to the Ballot Box: the role of Mário Soares in building Portuguese democracy

The University of Beira Interior is organising the round table "Das Armas para as Urnas: o papel de Mário Soares na construção da democracia portuguesa" on April 16 at 4pm in the Library Auditorium.

The debate will feature António José Seguro, Professor of International Relations at the Autonomous University of Lisbon and former Secretary General of the Socialist Party, Antonieta Garcia, researcher, writer and journalist, Paulo Serra, lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and Bruno Ferreira Costa, lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and specialist in politics. The moderator will be Nuno Francisco, lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and director of Jornal do Fundão.

The event is part of the programme for the exhibition "Às Armas ou às Urnas – Povo, MFA e Forças Armadas: entre revolução e democracia (1974-1982)’, which is on show at UBI's Pole I until 9 May.

The initiative, promoted by the University of Beira Interior, is part of the Mário Soares Centenary commemorations programme.
