Launch of the Mário Soares Centenary
The launch of the Mário Soares Centenary will take place on 21 November at 3pm at the Maria Barroso School in Lisbon.
The commemorations of the 100th anniversary of Mário Soares' birth are intended to be a time to remember and make present a figure who was fundamental in making Portugal a free, democratic, developed, European country, linked to all Portuguese-speaking countries and respected in the world.
Preserving the memory of Mário Soares allows it to be projected into the future, to new generations. Thus, among the objectives that these commemorations promote is the aim of creating spaces for training and valuing citizens' civic participation.
The aim is to stimulate and support the production of knowledge and the involvement of young people in civic projects, based on three fundamental premises: preserving memory; building the future; encouraging participation.
The celebrations will take place from 7 December 2024 until the end of 2025 and are linked to the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of 25 April and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Maria Barroso.
