Mário Soares Award
The Mário Soares Award was created in 1998 with the aim of recognizing academic or research work on the Contemporary History of Portugal, carried out by young researchers. Since 2011, the Award has been promoted with the support of the EDP Foundation.

The Mário Soares - Fundação EDP Award is granted each year, its purpose being to reward the authors of theses and dissertations, or other original research work, in the scope of Portugal’s Contemporary History.
The Award’s thematic field includes work on social sciences, arts and humanities.
Applicants, either national or foreign, shall not have more than 35 years old, completed until the deadline for the submittal of their work – which must have been finished and published in the previous three years.
The Award has promoted the study and research on Portugal’s Contemporary History, systematically contributing to improve knowledge on Modern Portugal and consolidate the activities and research careers of young researchers doing their master’s and PhD degrees in the fields of social sciences, arts and humanities.

Appraisal and selection
Works shall be appraised by a jury composed of three personalities well-known for their competence in the scientific areas pertaining to the award.
