Presentation of the book ‘The Salt of Democracy: Mário Soares and Culture’

The book “O Sal da Democracia: Mário Soares e a Cultura” will be presented on February 13, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., at Casa de Serralves, in Porto.

The book accompanies the exhibition of the same name and explores Mário Soares' relationship with art, literature and culture. The launch will feature a conversation between Pedro Marques Gomes, João Pinharanda, Isabel Soares and João Barroso Soares about Soares' political and cultural legacy.

The work, organized by the exhibition's curators, José Manuel dos Santos and Pedro Marques Gomes, brings together images from Mário Soares' art collection, rare documents, first editions and testimonies from figures such as Álvaro Siza, Lídia Jorge, Manuel Alegre and others, highlighting the centrality of culture in his thinking.

This is an initiative of the Serralves Foundation, as part of the exhibition “O Sal da Democracia: Mário Soares e a Cultura”, which is on show at Casa de Serralves until June 1st.
