'Mudar de Vida', by Paulo Rocha, at the Cinemateca
As part of the centennial celebrations of Maria Barroso, the film Mudar de Vida (1966), directed by Paulo Rocha, will be screened at the Cinemateca Portuguesa – Museu do Cinema, on 24 November 2025, at 9:30 PM.
Following the screening, there will be a conversation between filmmaker Cláudia Varejão and critic and researcher Tiago Bartolomeu Costa, moderated by Anabela Mota Ribeiro.
Widely regarded as one of the most significant works of the Portuguese New Cinema, Mudar de Vida is Paulo Rocha’s second feature film. Maria Barroso plays the role of Júlia, one of the leading characters, alongside Geraldo Del Rey and Isabel Ruth. The original score is by Carlos Paredes. The film runs for 93 minutes and is rated for ages 12 and up.
