Mário Soares and Contemporary Portugal
As part of the commemorations of the Centenary of Mário Soares, the University of Porto is organising, on 5 December, Friday, at 6:00 p.m., a discussion in the Great Hall of the Rectorate dedicated to the life and career of the former President of the Republic.
Artur Santos Silva, Francisco Assis and Domingos de Andrade will take part, sharing their testimonies about Mário Soares. Students from the University of Porto Debating Society will also join the conversation, reflecting on what Mário Soares represents for younger generations.
The session opens with the screening of the RTP documentary Políticos Portugueses – Mário Soares, focused on the period between the founding of the Socialist Party and his election as President of the Republic.
This initiative is part of the broader set of activities promoted by Portuguese universities to mark the Centenary of Mário Soares, which also included the international conference “Mário Soares: a life between centuries”, held last October at the University of Coimbra.
Free admission, subject to room capacity.
