This exhibition shows the life and work of Maria Barroso, highlighting her fight for freedom and democracy in Portugal, her career as an actress in theatre and cinema, the poetry recitals she gave as a militant means of resisting the dictatorship, her role as a teacher, her time as first lady and her defence of the many causes to which she dedicated herself throughout her life.

The exhibition can also serve as a reference resource for students during classroom activities.

The initiative is part of the programme celebrating the centenary of Mário Soares and Maria Barroso.
