Book Launch - The Essentials on Mário Soares, by Augusto Santos Silva

As part of the Centennial celebrations of Mário Soares, the launch of the book O Essencial sobre Mário Soares, by Augusto Santos Silva, will take place on 26 November 2025, at 6:00 PM, at the Pavilhão de Portugal – Centro de Exposições. Free admission.

The session will feature the author in conversation with David Castaño, historian, and Duarte Azinheira, executive director of the Portuguese Mint and Official Printing Office (INCM), reflecting on the political legacy of Mário Soares.

In this concise biographical essay, Augusto Santos Silva offers an introductory reflection on the political significance of Mário Soares, tracing his path of resistance against the dictatorship, his role during and after the 1974 Revolution, and his later responsibilities as Prime Minister and President of the Republic: a synthesis of the many dimensions of one of the founding figures of Portuguese democracy.
